International Culture Tourism to Northern Savonia project

In January 2025, Kuopio Dance Festival launched the project “International Cultural Tourism to Northern Savonia.” The aim of the project is to create new, permanent pathways to increase international cultural tourism in the region by leveraging its diverse cultural offerings.

Over the course of two and a half years, the aim is to highlight attractive cultural travel destinations, build connections with international tour operators, and pilot new service concepts.

Salima Peippo, executive director of the Kuopio Dance Festival and project director, explains:

“The project is driven by the significant cultural tourism potential of North Savo and Eastern Finland, which has not yet been sufficiently utilized in international markets. The region needs international tourism and the revenue it brings.”

The project will involve extensive cooperation between various actors in North Savo, including cultural sites, events, local services, restaurants, and accommodation providers. After the project, the models created will remain as permanent and long-term customer pathways and important networks, generating wide regional economic impact.

The project is funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), granted by the North Savo Regional Council.
