Performers selected for Dance Schools On Stage

The Dance Schools On Stage showcase will be held for the 15th time next summer. The showcase received an impressive number of applications from Finland and abroad, and the overall quality was very high this year as well.

The Executive Director of STOPP ry, Milla Malmberg, is delighted with the diversity of the applications:

“Once again, it was a pleasure to watch the videos. They clearly show the high-quality work being done in dance schools across Finland. It is always interesting to observe how certain moods and themes seem to move in waves from one dance school to another.”

“This year, I noticed that many of the pieces had a rather dark and even heavy tone, which undoubtedly reflects something about the world we are living in today. It is wonderful that dance provides a channel for expressing a wide range of emotions and atmospheres, from joy to sorrow and from lightness to darkness. The selected works represent well the diverse spectrum we were able to witness through the submitted videos.”

Kenneth Kvarnström, who was responsible for the selections together with Malmberg, is particularly pleased to see more street dance among the applicants this year:

“This year, there are clearly more street-style pieces and groups than before, which is truly encouraging. The broader the range of styles, the better!”

Dance Schools On Stage will be held on the Maria stage of Kuopio City Theatre. The showcase will be hosted by Atte Kilpinen, a Finnish National Ballet dancer!
