Compagnie Hervé Koubi
Sol Invictus
Sol Invictus is a radiant work by French-Algerian choreographer Hervé Koubi, and his declaration of love to dance. The piece has toured around the world and now arrives at Olvi Arena, performed by a group of seventeen dancers.
For this work premiered in 2023, Koubi has curated a group of exceptionally talented dancers, representing diversity in background, appearance, and skills. The dancers originate from different parts of the world, including street dancers, battle champions, acrobats, and artists who have developed their unique styles, with performers from regions such as the Amazon and Siberia.
According to the choreographer, Sol Invictus celebrates a love for dance and life — embracing the past, present, and future.
“Only by embracing the challenge of living fully, of bringing light into our own darkness, can our existence have meaning and give fulfillment. In Sol Invictus we celebrate life and, as it were, poke fun at death while dancing.
“Herve Koubi creates something magical that touches a lot of senses, one of them: the joy of dancing.
Dare I say that Sol Invictus is one of the top five productions touring the world right now… “
– Kenneth Kvarnström, the artistic director of the festival
In addition to the performance, the group will offer a course during the festival. More detailed information will be available in spring 2025.
