Award-winning dance artist Aditi Mangaldas brings her powerful solo work FORBIDDEN to Kuopio, which delves into the theme of suppressing a woman’s desire.

Mangaldas is a master of Indian Kathak dance, and she harnesses the traditions of Kathak in a dialogue with contemproray dance without prejudice.

FORBIDDEN breaks the taboos imposed on women’s sexuality – the work boldly and at the same time vulnerablely brings out the point where a woman’s eroticism and sexual desire have been considered a threat throughout the history of mankind.

In her performance, Mangaldas asks why women around the world are punished, judged, persecuted and disgraced just because they have the courage to express their own desire?
