Pori Dance Company (FIN)

Kuopio Dance Festival’s artistic director Riku Lehtopolku’s five-year term comes to a wonderful end with Pori Dance Company’s delicate piece Songs! Lehtopolku has created the choreography in collaboration with other performers and also dances in the piece himself. 

Songs is a love letter to dancing together. The performance, which speaks of gentleness and the beauty of trying again, creates a meeting place for memories and dreams for dancers in different stages of life, some of whom have worked together for decades, some of whom have just met. 

The work dares to rely on the power of movement and presence without any goal of provocation. In the music of Songs, life resonates with all its longings, loves and losses. In the songs of the piece, dance has been sought, where there is space for emotion to dwell – a dance that doesn’t necessarily tell anything, and yet it encompasses everything.

With Songs, we bid a grateful farewell to Lehtopolku’s splendid period!
